- May 2026 — the Croisette books a year ahead, every year
Cannes is a working market as much as a festival, and the industry takes the Croisette for all twelve days. Without a badge, the public screenings and the beach cinema are the event — and they are much easier to enjoy from a train stop away than from a room you cannot afford.

Which days to go
| Day | What happens | Crowd | Hotel price | Our call |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Opening days11–13 May 2027 | Opening ceremony and the first competition premieres; the Marché opens | ×3 | The most expensive nights of the fortnight, and the hardest to book | |
| First weekend14–17 May 2027 | Peak festival — the big premieres, the yachts, the queues on the Croisette | ×3.2 | Come now only if the red carpet is the point; stay outside Cannes | |
| Second week18–20 May 2027 | The market thins out, screenings get easier, the town becomes a town again | ×2 | The value week — same films, half the crowd, rooms you can actually get | |
| Closing weekend21–22 May 2027 | Awards on the Saturday evening, then the winners screen again | ×2.4 | A good compromise — the Palme d'Or screening is the easiest ticket of the festival |
Hotel price is what the same hotel costs on these dates against its rate four weeks before the event. Crowd and price are our estimates from how the event has run, not live rates.

Getting there
Nice Côte d’Azur is 35 minutes away by road and has its own tram to the station for the coastal train. The TER from Nice to Cannes runs every twenty minutes and takes half an hour — it is the reason staying along the line works so well.
Inside Cannes, everything is walking distance from the Palais. During the festival the Croisette is closed to traffic in the evenings and the rue d’Antibes becomes the only way across town.
Public screenings at the Cinéma de la Plage are free and open to everyone — no badge, no ticket, just an early arrival.

Questions
- When is the 2027 Cannes Film Festival?
- 11–22 May 2027 — the 80th edition, at the Palais des Festivals.
- Can I go without an industry badge?
- Yes. The beach cinema is free, Cinéphiles passes give locals and visitors access to some screenings, and the town itself is the event in the evenings.
- Which week is cheaper?
- The second. The market closes mid-festival and the Croisette empties, taking a third off the room rates.
- Is staying in Nice realistic?
- Very. Thirty minutes on the train, every twenty minutes, and a city that has rooms in May.
- When do the hotels actually go?
- A year out for the Croisette — the same clients return to the same suites annually. Everything else follows about six months ahead.
