The festival is on an island in the middle of a capital city, which makes it the rare camping-or-hotel choice where the hotel actually works: a tram and the HÉV get you back to a bed in twenty minutes. Óbuda, on the island's own side of the river, is the under-booked answer.

Getting there

Budapest airport is 40 minutes from the centre by the 100E bus, which runs all night during the festival. Trains from Vienna take two and a half hours into Nyugati.

The island is reached by the H5 HÉV suburban train to Filatorigát, or on foot across the Árpád bridge. Both run late, which is the reason staying in town is genuinely workable here.

August in Budapest means 30°C and the Danube; the thermal baths are open and are the correct way to spend a festival afternoon.
